Because your life means more than your vision loss

At Open Compass Counseling, I understand the challenges faced by individuals with vision loss. My mission is to provide compassionate counseling services to help you cope with the emotional and psychological impact of vision loss and navigating the world with blindness. I look forward to supporting you on your journey towards adjusting to blindness, optimal well-being, and a fulfilling life.

Strength does not come from what you can do. It comes from overcoming the things you once thought you couldn't.

Offering

Individual Counseling

My individual counseling sessions offer a safe space for you to explore your emotions and develop coping strategies specifically tailored to your needs. During your time with me, you will find a safe, non-judgmental space where you are able to openly talk about your experiences living life as a visually impaired person with the added benefit of speaking to someone who is also blind. Without a doubt, our personal experience and vision loss journeys may be very different, and I do not claim to know your story. However, it has been proven that the ability to connect and talk with others who have experienced similar circumstances is highly beneficial. As you may have already experienced, it is difficult to find people who truly understand the tragedy of vision loss. My hope is that I can be here to help you through the process, no matter where you find yourself and assist you in finding your way to optimal emotional and mental well-being.

Family Counseling

My family counseling services aim to strengthen relationships and improve communication within families affected by vision loss. I provide guidance and resources to help families overcome the challenges together.

Adaptation Support

My adaptation support services focus on practical strategies for tackling every-day situations you may encounter living with blindness. Whether it be difficulties in managing self-care, frustrations with daily responsibilities, or challenges related to finding new, alternative ways to adapt your work, social life, or hobbies, I can provide guidance.  Furthermore, there are many wonderful organizations and resources available to people who have lost vision. I will be more than happy to connect you with these resources and get you on your way to living your best life once again.

Vision Loss Support Groups

My vision loss support groups are an advantageous addition to your adjustment journey as they provide the powerful opportunity to connect with others who are facing similar challenges. Participation in a support group will not only provide you with an invaluable source of validation and blindness related discussion, but it will also inspire hope, relieve stress, allow you to learn about yourself, and help others do the same.

Blindness Education Workshops

From a kindergarten classroom to a large corporate wellness event, my blindness awareness and education workshops are an excellent way to break down barriers related to blindness by learning about the tools, techniques, and challenges commonly found within the blind community. My workshops are built to meet your needs and to cater to your intended audience, but can cover a range of subjects including blindness etiquette, communication solutions, introduction to braille, blindness inclusion practices, and common misconceptions. Additionally, I am available for an hour long lunch-and-learn or an all-day workshop, depending on your needs.

Motivational Speaking

As an optimist at heart, I am always available to speak on the topic of a person's incredible, inherit value and awe-inspiring ability to overcome seemingly impossible odds. I am immensely passionate about human resilience as well as the pure truth that a person's influence and presence in the world is unbelievably greater than whether or not they have the ability to see, walk, hear, reproduce, or any other unmerited measure of worth that can be imposed by our mislead world. I will captivate your audience utilizing the power of my own testimony of resilience, woven together with the remarkable stories of others who have shared in my journey, inspiring you to believe that all life means more than an individual's circumstance or ability.
